A few weeks ago, one of our Chronic Illness Bloggers had asked if she really needed a Facebook page for her blog. The short answer is YES, YES and YES! (I’m screaming yes here!)

Traffic sources can vary by blogger, but for me, Facebook is one of the largest traffic generators for my blog. I don’t think I could have grown as fast as I did without networking on Facebook.

In previous posts, I’ve talked about why it’s important to have a mailing list. You need a Facebook page for many of the same reasons. It’s one more way to build a following of reasers who will return to your blog over and over and over again. From experience, I’ve learned it’s much easier to build your traffic via dedicated readers versus continually trying to reach new readers.

Your Facebook page also helps build name recognition for your blog’s brand, so please don’t make the mistake of relying on your personal Facebook page to promote your blog posts. I’ve seen bloggers who have thousands of people following them on Facebook, but they’re listed under their first and last names. If you type in their blog name, nothing comes up! It’s frustrating because I know their blog name, but I might not know their name! I’d love to follow them on Facebook, but I can’t even find them!

Also, it looks more professional when you have a dedicated Facebook page for your blog. Do you really want your readers to have to wade through your kids’ photos and funny memes on your personal page? And do you really want to compromise your own personal privacy?

Love this post! I may have been that blogger that asked if I needed a Facebook page as I did ask that same question a few weeks ago! You’ll be pleased to know I have now made a Facebook page and so far so good! Thanks again!

What if you have a business which the blog is a part of? I’m a professional organizer and I have a FB business page. When I post to the blog on my website I put a post on my FB business page to the post on my website. Are you saying I should also have a separate FB page just for my blog?

    Thanks!

Hi Janet, personally I would keep things simple and just use the FB page for your business to promote all of it. That being said…if you’re looking to grow your blog as a separate entity, then I would consider setting up a separate FB page for it.
