I was a new father when I first became ill. Like so many people, I bounced from doctor to doctor for years and got sicker and sicker as the years progressed. My initial condition was Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis) but as the years went on, both Fibromyalgia and POTS set in and I had lost all hope and thought recovery from the illness wasn’t possible.
When symptoms became extremely severe and I struggled to cope with the chronic pain, I used my research skills as a former scientist (physicist) and researched the illness with a single goal – a quest for the deeper answer to “why this illness occurs and what drives it”.
Whilst, of course, I never found that one fix all magic cure, the deeper understanding allowed me to change my approach and go beyond symptom treatment. About 18 months later I had made a full recovery after 7 years of severe illness and in 2013 I shared my explanation and framework for recovery in my book CFS Unravelled.
Since the publication of my book, more and more research has been published demonstrating the root and secondary dysfunctions described in his book and the medical community has moved closer to a consensus on the root cause of the illness.
For years I have supported people via my website where I publish interviews with other recovered people who tell their story and share their recovery insights. I also authored a second book; Discover Hope – 7 steps to help you rediscover hope and cope better with Fibromyalgia, ME/CFS, POTS, PVFS & MCS. I now give this book away for free on my website.
After years of requests, I also responded and created a comprehensive online recovery program called ANS REWIRE to support more people with their recovery journey from this syndrome. The program is now being used in over 30 countries around the world.
I live on the sunny Gold Coast in Queensland Australia with my wife and two children. I am passionate about enjoying outdoor activities like hiking, sports and exploring the local beaches and rainforest with my family.
