5 tips for growing your blog on Pinterest

Today we’re back with another growing your blog guide and today we’re discussing Pinterest. There’s no doubt that using Pinterest is a way to skyrocket your blog traffic, but how to go about? Let’s discuss…

AD:This post is a roundup of useful tips and tricks for using Pinterest. It’s supported by Font Bundles who are definitely worth checking out when it comes to crafting the perfect pin!

1. It’s all about the Pin

If you plan on making a lot of Pins, it could be worth buying some Pinterest templates to use with tools such as Canva. Otherwise, play around with different designs.

Aim to create 2-3 different tools per blog post you want to promote. Doing this can be a good way to test the waters: for example, does including one keyword work better than another? Either way, make sure images are crisp, the title is clear and consider branding the Pins (e.g. always using a certain style or referencing your URL at the bottom.

2. Remember Pinterest is a search engine

So make sure you pins and boards reflect that. For example, ‘my meals’ is not something people will search. However ‘gluten-free dinner ideas’ is much more probable. It might be about beautiful images but Pinterest isn’t really like traditional media. It’s not about how many followers you have. Chances are people will come across your pin by searching for it, rather than following you.

3. Experiment with different fonts

Use contrasting fonts to catch the readers eye: for example a contrast of bold capital letters with handwriting lower case is my go to contrast, or I use two different contrasting colours instead. You can find loads of free font styles on Font Bundles website. Whether it’s calligraphy style fonts, tattoo fonts, bold fonts or layered fonts. You can then download these fonts and add to whichever program you’re using to create pins.

4. Use group boards

Members of our community using the Chronic Pinning Pinterest board (there’s a thread to join in our Facebook group) but there’s tons of other group boards. Pinning to group boards can increase your chance of getting repinned by others in your niche, but it’s important not to join lots and only use active boards that have lots of content. The facebook group ‘Group Pinterest Boards’ is a great place where you can find relevant group boards for your niche.

5. Be consistent

Pinterest rewards bloggers who use their platform. Even if you use a Pinterest scheduler, still go into the app on a regular basis to repin and visit other people’s pins. Pinterest also values new pins, so regularly recreate pins for existing posts and keep sharing them. This can be more time-consuming than just looping the same pins but Pinterest values it more highly.
