A beginner’s guide to scrapbooking for mindfulness

Yesterday, we shared our roundup of the best ways to keep busy during lockdown. and option to do so is by scrapbooking!

AD-This post is completely our words but contains a sponsored mention to a great scrapbooking resource!

Why scrapbooking is a great idea for those of us with a chronic illness.

In an age where everything seems instant, scrapbooking is a lovely way to instead focus on creating something beautiful.

It can help you focus on positive memories (something we could all do with a regular reminder of) and some suggest that scrapbooking can be a lovely mindfulness activity.

You can make your scrapbook project as simple or complex as you like and it’s something that can be easily done in short time segments; meaning it shouldn’t leave you feeling fatigued.

Scrapbooking is a long project and can help with creating a sense of purpose or even routine to your day, which again, is another thing we struggle with when living with a chronic illness.

Is physical scrapbooking or digital scrapbooking the better option for those of us with chronic illness?

You don’t need to spend a fortune on creating scrapbooks. Some prefer to do this with an old-fashioned scrapbook whilst others prefer to create digital scrapbooks.

Physical scrapbook can be a good way of using up old photos and supplies, is a good excuse to get away from our screens and feels more ‘hands-on’.

However, digital scrapbooking is ideal if you don’t have lots of physical resources to hand or don’t have access to a printer. It also is perfect if you are low on energy and therefore don’t want to spend time tidying up afterwards- since there’s no mess! Some people with joint issues can find digital scrapbooking easier than handling a physical scrapbook.

What is digital scrapbooking?

If you find it easier to use a computer, want to avoid mess and don’t have many physical resources to hand you might prefer to try digital scrapbooking instead.

Digital scrapbooking is using your computer to creating all sorts of fun projects, including memory scrapbooks using your digital photos!

One thing I love about digital scrapbooking is just how beautiful you can make your projects. I am not great at art but love creating different designs for my blog, pinterest and personal projects.

How can I start digital scrapbooking?

The first thing you’ll need is beautiful backgrounds-and that’s where today’s sponsor Design Bundles comes in. They have all sorts of scrapbook designs and low-cost background patterns like the amazing bundle pictured above. These bundles contain thousands of different backgrounds, meaning you can then use them for all kinds of digital products; including things like making greeting cards for loved ones. You can also purchase separate items-like glitter digital paper which I’m obsessed with-and complete digital scrapbook kits.

Once you’ve got all your digital supplies, you can then import them into scrapbooking software. This is a great roundup of the best software to use for your scrapbooking but My Memories Suite is a lovely piece of software designed specifically for that purpose and they do offer a free trial too.

Digital Scrapbooking Inspiration

Pinterest is one of the best ways to get scrapbooking inspiration! Searching ‘digital scrapbook inspiration’ pulls up tons of ideas.

I love the example above as a way of creating seasonal digital scrapbooks!

I’d love to hear your thoughts on digital scrapbooking-have you used it or would you consider it? I’d love to see examples of your work too!
